At the University, we actively encourage our staff and students to recycle wherever possible.
Recycling in the Student Village
Over the last few months, new recycling signs have been installed in two locations around the Student Village to help students identify which bins are appropriate for the different types of waste and recycling.
Along with these signs, posters have been displayed in every Court to highlight the nearest recycling points for the students and what they are able to recycle. You can view a copy of the poster here: Recycling in Student Village Poster
New Mixed Recycling Bins in the Atrium
As part of the ongoing programme to reduce the amount of general waste that the University of Lincoln generates new mixed recycling bins have been purchased for the Atrium area in the Minerva Building.
The new bins can take plastic bottles, cans, paper and cardboard. The items collected in the bins are taken to a sorting facility and separated into the various waste streams for recycling.
During term time the University generates around 50 tonnes of general waste each month. The waste is taken to a materials recovery facility, where items that can be recycled are removed from the waste. Any items that are unsuitable for recycling are processed into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). By using these waste treatment methods the amount of waste that is sent to landfill is minimised.
As part of the plans to upgrade the external litter bins at the University new multi compartment bins will be introduced in the coming months. These bins have sections for general waste, mixed recyclables and glass.
Recycle Your Old Clothes and Support Student Projects at the Same Time
A new clothes recycling bank has been installed at the recycling point between Bridge House and Village Hall. The bank can be used to recycle any unwanted clothes and shoes.
The clothing bank has been provided by the Salvation Army. The profits generated from the bin will be split between the University of Lincoln and the Salvation Army. It is intended that the money generated from the scheme will be used to support student led environmental projects at the University.
The Salvation Army has stated that it is helpful if you can place your donations in a bag before putting them in a bank.
